Member Organizer

A Member Organizer (MO) is a North Dakota United member who builds their union through outreach to fellow employees about workplace issues and the work of their union with the goal of building the union’s capacity and power. MOs commit to participating in organizing training, one-on-one conversations with fellow employees, and supporting local and statewide organizing efforts.

Requirements

Members who are interested in this project must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to participate in trainings and team activities.
  • Desire to engage other employees in one-on-one conversations.
  • Willingness to challenge themselves and others.
  • Ability to travel locally when needed and spend up to 5 hours a week performing activities related to the project.
  • Commitment to remain engaged with their local throughout the length of the project.
  • Have a cell phone that can make and receive calls and texts.
  • Use electronic and digital tools (i.e. video conferencing and other applications).

Duties

Duties of MOs include working with NDU staff, local leadership and fellow members to achieve the goals of the project:

  • Grow membership of their local.
  • Have one-on-one conversations; listen and talk with workers; make assessments.
  • Identify workplace leaders and organizing issues; move workers to action and recruit new members.
  • Assist with the logistics for project meetings and activities.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and trainings.
  • Track and report their work through procedures developed by NDU.
  • Assist with internal communications.
  • Other duties as needed.

Compensation: MOs will be paid $30/hour for a maximum of 5 hours a week ($150/week) during the project period.
